About Our Yarns – Why Cats?
You will notice that every base here at Serenova Crafts is named after a specific breed of cat. Cats have always been close our heart. Crazy cat lady status has not quite been achieved (yet), but who knows what the future will hold!
Jessica wanted to honor her love of cats by using them as the inspiration for the names of her bases. But don’t worry – the weight of the base will be in every name!
So go ahead and take a look below to see what bases are on offer!
American Shorthair Fingering

4-ply yarn
American Shorthair is the cat world’s version of a mutt. Common, and unassuming. But just because it isn’t immediately eye catching doesn’t mean it can’t be great.
The even ply and high twist of this base means that you can do just about anything with it. Cables? Sure. Lace? No problem. Hat? Mitts? Skirt? Go for it all. This workhorse yarn will be there.

Cornish Rex Sock

75% SW BFL (Bluefaced Leicester) / 25% Nylon
4ply yarn
The breed Cornish Rex was chosen because the curl of the Cornish Rex’s fur appears similar to the crimp in the Bluefaced Leicester wool that is the base of this yarn. Both originate in England, and we though it was the perfect combo.
The yarn itself is a bouncy, yet sturdy, sock yarn, with great stitch definition. It’s nearly as soft as a Merino sock yarn, but with just that extra bit of bounce from the BFL crimp.
Norwegian Forest Worsted

4ply yarn
This super squishy yarn bounces back just like the thick coat of the Norwegian Forest Cat. This is a natural breed that developed it’s thick coat to deal with the winters of Northern Europe.
It is also a very sweet breed with long soft fur and a woolly, bouncy, undercoat. We think this is the perfect name for a workhorse worsted weight that can do just about anything. Sturdy 4 ply construction paired with just the right amount of squish makes it perfect for anything you may want to do with it.
